NILES. – Sharon Tyler, Republican candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives, today announced the endorsement of the Michigan Farm Bureau AgriPac Committee in the 78th House District race.

“Agriculture is Michigan’s second-largest industry, generating $71.3 billion, employs more than 1 million people, and is the only growing industry in the state,” Tyler said. “It is important that the state recognizes and supports the industry for all that agriculture contributes to our economy through agri-tourism, agribusiness, and bioscience. I am proud to be a friend of agriculture and will continue to fight for all aspects of Michigan agriculture.”

The Michigan Farm Bureau AgriPac Committee represents over 500 food processors and 56,000 farms, 95% of which are family-owned and operated. Michigan's farms, farmlands, orchards, and nurseries produce more than 200 commercial commodities - second only to California in the diversity of its agricultural production.

Tyler is serving her first term in the Michigan House of Representatives as the minority vice-chair of the House Agriculture Committee. She lead the bipartisan charge with 65 legislators from both sides of the aisle to keep the Michigan Department of Agriculture separate from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment. She has consistently fought for farmers and agriculture interests including MAEAP and MSU Extension and was the sponsor of a new law that allows individuals to shoot feral swine on sight.
